In the wee morning hours of November 10, 2007, Jason was awakened by a tremendous crash outside our window. The crash didn't wake me up, but the turmoil outside did. Almost immediately after the crash there was a lot of yelling, and that's what got my attention (mostly because our dog wouldn't stop barking!) The crash was so loud that it woke up our neighbors from the street behind us and they came over to investigate.
The guy driving the truck went through our light and was only stopped because of the concrete barrier where the box that controls the traffic lights is located. He had two people riding in the back of the truck as well. One of the people from the back of the truck was hurt pretty badly. He was hurt too, but decided to take off instead of hang around for the police. They called in the dogs to find him. He didn't make it very far though. Maybe 100 yards. They found him in the field in front of the charter school down the street.
Everyone in the truck was drunk, and the one guy that wasn't really hurt kept coming over and trying to talk to me and my neighbor. Jason and her husband did a good job of keeping him otherwise occupied so we only had to deal with his drunken diatribes a couple of times. :)
The ambulances all left about an hour after the initial accident happened, but the truck wasn't towed until almost 4 in the morning. We didn't get much sleep, considering we had to be up early for Jason's football game. (Jason was up earlier than the rest of us, :D)
We are going to be taking these pictures to the county to see if they will put a barrier up. If the guy had actually been in the right lane we would have had some unwelcome visitors right in our living room!
